Natasha Williams
Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy service for Adults, Children and Adolescents

Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBT) with Children and adolescents uses the same therapeutic approach as with adults, however treatment draws up evidenced based CBT approaches specifically for children and adolescents. The therapy is delivered in a child centered manner approach, which takes into account a child's / young person's age and development, although recognises that each child will have individual needs.

CBT with children and adolescentscan help to address:

The assessment to establish what disorder or issue the child is suffering from includes the use of scales such as the Strength and Difficulties questionnaire (SDQ), The children's Impact of Events scale (CRIES-13) and the BYI-II (Beck Youth Inventory- second edition). Behavioural interviewing (antecedents, behaviours, consequences), self monitoring (self ratings, diaries), direct observation of the problem, discussion with parents/caregivers/guardians and teachers, and discussion with child / young person will be the basis of the assessment and establish the formulaton.

Please note: The Assessment and use of scales allows Natasha to make some Axis I (of the DSM-IV-TR diagnostic tool) diagnosis' for example, Mood disorders (Depression, Bi Polar disorder), and Anxieties/Neuroses (Panic, Phobias, OCD, PTSD). However, Natasha is not a trained Psychologist. She is therefore unable to make diagnosis on children where there may be question about childhood/infancy disorders such as Attention Deficient Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Conduct disorders or any attachment disorders; or Axis II disorders such as Personality disorders, Autism or speech and language disorders. However, within her work Natasha is willing to provide an opinion on whether further assessment is required to explore such issues.

Therapy can involve family members and caregivers. Sessions can last between 30 - 50 minutes.

Session will be of a minimum of 16 and may increase depending on the child's issue.

Therapy will incorporate resources such as puppets, role play, worksheets and computer programs.

Referrals will be accepted for privately funded children and adolescents. Schools, GP's and private fostering & residential services can also make referrals.
